My Green Smoothie

One thing I have done religiously for the past five years is drink a green smoothie every day. My smoothie contains a banana, komatsuna (Japanese mustard spinach), celery, molokheiya, okra, broccoli sprouts, white sesame seeds, black sesame seeds, kale powder, and mixed vegetable juice. Not only is it tasty, (although it might not sound it), it is packed with nutrients.
1. Rich in Vitamins and Minerals
Banana: High in potassium, which supports heart health and regulates blood pressure. It also provides vitamin B6 for brain function.
Komatsuna: Packed with calcium, vitamin C, and vitamin K, promoting bone health and boosting the immune system.
Celery: Contains vitamin K, folate, and potassium, which help regulate blood pressure and support bone health.
2. Antioxidant and Anti-inflammatory Properties
Molokheiya (Jute Leaves): Known for its high antioxidant content, including beta-carotene and vitamin E, which help fight free radicals and reduce inflammation.
Broccoli Sprouts: Contain sulforaphane, a powerful compound with cancer-fighting and anti-inflammatory properties.
Kale Powder: Provides a concentrated source of antioxidants, vitamins A, C, and K, and helps detoxify the body.
3. Supports Digestive Health
Okra: Rich in dietary fiber, which aids in digestion and helps maintain a healthy gut microbiome.
Celery: Contains fiber and water, promoting healthy digestion and regular bowel movements.
4. Heart Health and Weight Management
Sesame Seeds (White and Black): Rich in healthy fats, fiber, and plant-based protein. They also contain magnesium and phytosterols, which can help lower cholesterol levels.
Mixed Vegetable Juice: Adds a variety of vitamins and minerals while keeping the smoothie hydrating and low in calories, supporting weight management.
Since I started drinking this smoothie daily, I haven’t had a cold, the flu, or any other illnesses, and I haven’t caught COVID. If you can’t find komatsuna, you can use spinach instead, and if broccoli sprouts are hard to find, watercress is a good substitute.
